The Village of Pinehurst has instituted the Code Red Emergency
Notification System – an ultra high speed telephone communication
service for emergency notifications. The system allows the Village
to telephone all or targeted areas of the Village in case of an
emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a
boilwater,
missing child, or evacuation notices, etc,). It then delivers a
recorded message to you or your answering machine, making three
attempts to connect to your number. We recommend that you take
advantage of this system and sign up as soon as possible.

Conservation Commission to provide residents with an effective
recycling program. Recyclable materials are collected curbside once
a week (Friday’s in the Lake Pinehurst neighborhood).
All household recyclable materials can be commingled into a single
container (the Village will provide containers starting July 2011).
These materials are sorted at the recycling plant into resource
streams that are sold to manufacturers who make “new” products
from your recyclables. In addition to its curbside pick-up program,
the Village has a recycling center located at 600 McCaskill Road
where residents can drop off their commingled recyclables in any of
the containers on site. The center is open weekdays from 8:00 am
to 3:00 pm.
The Village has a wide list of Acceptable Recyclable Materials (see
HYPERLINK "http://www.VillageofPinehust.org"
www.VillageofPinehust.org, “Community Resources”, Recycling
Information”, “Recyclable Materials”, “click here”, “Acceptable
Recycling Items”). Here you will also find a list of materials currently
not accepted by the Village recycling program. For many materials
on this list the web site will provide you with a list of local businesses
which do accept and recycle these materials.
Currently, only 45% of Pinehurst households are taking advantage
of the Village curbside recycling program and less than 30% of
materials collected by Pinehurst's Public Services Department are
being recycled. Every ton of waste diverted from the landfill to the
recycling plant saves the Village almost $40!
In Pinehurst recycling is easy to do. It is also the right thing to do. In
fact, it is now illegal in North Carolina to dispose of aluminum cans
and plastic bottles in the garbage. So, join with your neighbors to
help save non-renewable natural resources, save taxpayer money
and landfill space, and create new American jobs –
RECYCLE!
